This illustration was created for The Office of the Chief of Public Affairs' Digital Media Division (OCpa dmd) to commemorate the anniversary of operation enduring freedom for the u.s. army social media platforms. Due to the controversial nature of the subject matter, and the low quality / resolution of available historical photos, I opted to create vector graphics by hand tracing the contours of two soldiers on patrol. I then used a cut out of Afghanistan and gradients to create a background, and then overlaid everything with a colored paper texture to blend all the elements together. My intention was to create something that looks like the cover of a novel or comic book.
